Important CJRS and SEISS Claim Deadline Information

The Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (CJRS) and the Self-Employment Income Support Scheme (SEISS) both have upcoming deadlines that you should be aware of.

We would also like to make you aware of additional information on CJRS and SEISS claims and further support that is available.

Table of Contents

Upcoming deadlines

You are now able to submit your CJRS furlough claims for periods in January. The deadline for these claims is 15‌‌ ‌February 2021.

The third SEISS grant closes for claims on Friday‌‌ ‌29‌‌ ‌January. If you’re planning on claiming and are eligible, you must claim on or before this date.

CJRS

If you were unable to claim for periods in December, a claim may still be accepted it if there is a reasonable excuse for not claiming before the deadline. Some examples of what may be classified as a reasonable excuse are having to self-isolate, or an unexpected stay in hospital that prevented completing a claim.

If you believe that you can still claim late, do so as soon as you’re able to. Please note that reasonable excuses only apply to late claims for periods from November onwards.

For more information on reasonable excuses, go to GOV‌‌‌.UK and search ‘claim for wages’.

If you have submitted claims for December but need to make a change because you didn’t claim enough, you have until Thursday‌‌ ‌28‌‌ ‌January.

To find out how to amend a claim, search ‘Get help with the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme’ on GOV‌‌‌‌‌.UK or contact us on 0113 257 4606.

What you need to do now

  1. If you haven’t submitted a claim for December but believe that you have a reasonable excuse, check if you can apply to make a late claim by searching ‘claim for wages’ on GOV‌‌‌.UK.
  2. Submit any claims for January no later than Monday‌‌ ‌15‌‌ ‌February.
  3. Keep any records that support the amount of CJRS grant claimed, in the event that HMRC needs to check them. ‌

Furlough for caring responsibilities

Employees can ask to be furloughed if they have caring responsibilities resulting from coronavirus, such as caring for children who are at home because of school or childcare closing. Employers can place employees on furlough and claim for them under the CJRS.

Third grant of the Self-Employment Income Support Scheme (SEISS)

The third SEISS grant closes for claims on Friday‌‌ ‌29‌‌ ‌January. If you’re planning on claiming and are eligible, you must claim on or before this date.

VAT Payments Deferral Scheme – correcting errors

If you have noticed an error on a VAT return which relates to a period which is covered by the VAT Payments Deferral Scheme, you should send a VAT652 form to HMRC as soon as possible.

Once you have sent a VAT652 form to HMRC, you will then receive a Statement of Account confirming the balance, and if any extra payments are needed as a result, you can contact HMRC to defer these too, before the end of January.

You can:

  • pay the deferred VAT in full on or before 31 March 2021
  • opt into the VAT Deferral New Payment Scheme when it launches in early 2021 (we will update you on this scheme once we have more information)
  • contact HMRC if your clients need more help to pay.

Further support

There are several live webinars on GOV.UK which offer support to employers on the changes to CJRS and SEISS and how they may affect their employees. You can book yourself in for a webinar or view updated guidance by going to GOV‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌.UK and searching ‘help and support if your business is affected by coronavirus’.

We will continue to support our clients throughout these uncertain times. Additionally, if you have any queries that we can assist with, or if you require any further support, please get in touch via 0113 257 4506.
